Literature Text

A little black haired boy of the age of nine wandered the street. In his hands he held a toy train. When he tugged on a string, the train would whistle.

A girl at the age at eighteen pulled on her bookbag, grabbed her flute case, walked out the door, and waited at her bus stop. She looked up at the twinkling stars of the early morning and a feeling of awe struck her. When she rode the bus to school she looked out the window and saw the sun shine through the trees making rays of bright green.

“One day I’ll be a band director,” she thought, “I’ll find a way to stop kids from quitting band and teach them about life. We’ll play so much beautiful, exciting music.” Her favorite song from class started to fill her head. She got off the bus. The morning breeze was cool and smelled of freshly cut grass. The sky shone bright blue. She clenched her fist and looked up at the school.

A woman at the age of twenty-seven pulled on her suit jacket, slipped on her heels, grabbed her purse, and walked out the door. The sun was overhead but the day was just the right temperature. She opened the car door and got in. When she drove she passed by a school bus on its way to school.

“I used to be that age,” she thought, “Back then I hardly knew what I was going to do, but now that I’ve got my degree there’s no way they’ll turn me down.” She began to pass tall skyscrapers that casted shadows on the street and parked her car next to a building with the sign, Tech Edge. She pulled her purse over her shoulder, stood up straight, and walked gracefully towards the building.

The girl was walking with her friends out of the band room when she heard a noise echo through her mind from behind her.

CHHUUUUUUU……

Time seemed to slow down as she turned. Between the crowd of people she spotted a black haired boy holding a toy train. Time stopped completely and the people around the boy started to fade away. The boy’s blue eyes looked directly into hers. His expression was emotionless, but then as if staring directly into her soul, he smiled and pulled a string on the toy train.

CHHUUUUUUU……

Time began to speed back up and the crowd faded back into existence, but the boy had vanished completely. Her voice picked up right where she left off without pause. But suddenly a sense of defeat and weariness began to take over her. She stopped mid-sentence. A friend asked her what was wrong. She made an excuse and let the conversation take its own course. As she walked her mind drifted away from her friends and towards band.

“I played horrible today,” she thought, “How could I ever teach band if I can’t even play well? The new band kids will hate me; they’d never take me seriously enough.” She went to Encor and laid her head on her desk all period.

The woman walked confidently from her interview. Exiting the front door, she could hear cars and motorcycles as they sped past. The clouds overhead left little shadows between the tall building and wide bridges. As she was taking the first step outside a noise echoed through her world.

CHHUUUUUUU……

Time began to slow down and the cars and pedestrians on the street faded into nothing. An eighteen year old boy appeared standing in the middle of the street looking straight at her holding a toy train. His blue eyes looked fierce. She ran towards him in slow motion with her hand extended. When their eyes locked, he smiled and pull the train’s string.

CHHUUUUUUU……

Time began to speed back up, and she stopped running. The cars had overtaken the street and the pedestrians filled the sidewalks, but the boy had disappeared. She began feeling lightheaded and her stomach felt like it had butterflies. She quickly got in the car and turned on the air conditioning. She laid her head on the steering wheel and let the radio play.

Wow, very intriguing. And I completely approve of the appearance of a flute player. :3
